Uparatna and gems

Tradition treats a gem as the deepest remedy, and so asks that it be chosen with care, after reading the chart. Each gem has an uparatna alternative. Guide §7b.9

Only for the chart's functional benefic planets; the lower-cost uparatna first, then a certified ratna. No gem is necessary.

The planet–gem list is in Praśna Mārga (adverse transits); uparatna, metal, finger and day are tradition. Rule: gem_rule.json.

Who a gem is for

A ratna (and its uparatna) is suggested only for planets that are functional benefics for your lagna: the lords of the 1st, 5th and 9th, and the yogakaraka. Every ratna is shown with its lower-cost uparatna, and the ₹0 options always come first.

  • Gem suggestions only when the birth time is known; otherwise none, only ₹0 and low-cost options.
  • No gem is suggested for Rahu or Ketu (hessonite, cat's eye): they own no sign and traditions differ. Only ₹0 options are suggested for them; the gem guide gives information only.
  • Always show the uparatna (lower cost) before the ratna. No gem is 'necessary'; ₹0 options always on top.
  • No gem for children under 12. No gem offer during pregnancy, illness or grief (W12 rule).
  • Before wearing: tradition suggests keeping the stone with you for a few days (usually 3–7), and wearing it in Shukla paksha on the planet's weekday. Remove it if anything feels wrong. (tradition)
  • The site shows eligibility and information only; whether to wear is the user's choice.

How to check a gem or uparatna is genuine

  • First check that the planet is a functional benefic for your chart (gem rule). No gem is necessary; ₹0 options first.
  • No gem replaces medical care.
  • Never buy under pressure or fear. If the astrologer also sells the gem, a second opinion is reasonable.
  • Get a certificate from a recognised lab (e.g. GTL Jaipur, IGI, GIA). Verify the certificate number yourself on the lab's website; the photo, weight and size should match the stone.
  • Natural, synthetic (lab-made) and treated are three different things. Treatments include heat, glass-filling (common in ruby), dyeing and oiling (common in emerald). Get the disclosure in writing: natural or not, and which treatment.
  • Pearl: most pearls on sale are cultured; natural pearls are rare and very costly. Coral: dyed or reconstituted coral is also sold. This should be written clearly.
  • Have the weight written in carats and ratti. As commonly used, 1 ratti ≈ 0.91 carat, but sellers use different ratti values; so the bill must give the weight in carats.
  • Get a bill with the seller's name and address, the stone's name, natural/treated, weight, certificate number and the return policy. Ask about returns before you buy.
  • Uparatnas (e.g. amethyst, citrine, peridot, moonstone) also come real or imitation; have 'natural' written for them too.

Pause and think if you see these

  • '100% real' without a certificate, or a certificate whose number is not found on the lab's site.
  • A promise that the gem will bring money, marriage, a job or health.
  • Fear such as 'harm will come if you don't wear it today'.

If someone sells through fear, 'buy today' or hurry, stop. A genuine purchase can wait and comes with a bill.

Get a proper bill for every purchase: the seller's name, address, GST number (if any), a full description, weight, price and the return policy.

Accept claims like 'abhimantrit', 'siddh' or 'pran-pratishthit' only if the seller states in writing who did it, when and how, and can show a video or photo. Such a claim should not be a reason to pay more.

We do not sell this; the information is here to help you recognise a fair price.

Lab names are only examples. Choose the shop that suits you, and take the checks above with you.
